Around 2001-2002, I decided to try The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron in an effort to get “unblocked.”
I remember one of the directives in the book was to write “morning pages,” three pages every day–no matter what. The premise behind the pages (if I remember correctly) was that you would get everything out of your system and eventually tire of hearing yourself complain about the same old shit. Then you’d have to get creative and plan out some projects, write memoirs, or make something up.
It’s quite easy to write the same old shit in a paper journal every day–or write an account of the day’s activities; however, the open blog format makes a writer feel like he/she can’t be repetitive.
OMG, my followers will quit following!
OMG, I’m starting to care what my followers will think!
Maybe I should go back to the safety of paper journaling.
Aha, but paper journaling does not have the accountability that this does. WordPress keeps track and pushes me toward the next goal.
This daily writing is nudging me toward something. I just don’t know what it is yet. I guess I’ll blather on about it tomorrow and figure it out next week….
At least I haven’t made a list of everything I’ve done today and what I ate for lunch (like I did in 2001).
Aaaah. Artistic growth in just 10 short years.
